The recent research on Leonardo Da Vinci's drawing "Landscape with a river", his  oldest signed drawing, proves that the painter visited  Southern Umbria. Thios district is also the birthplace of another fampous painter, who lived in the same period of Leonardo, whose name was Piermatteo d'Amelia. He worked with Filippo Lippi in the Cathedral of Spoleto and with Perugino in the Sistine Chapel.

His most popular painting - attributed some years ago - is the Annunciation. This altarpiece is displayed in the Isabelle Gardner Stewart Museum in Boston, which managed to purchase it after many attemps. 

On top of Marmore Falls depicted by Leonardo in the renowned drawing, visitors can also admire at the CAOS Museum in Terni the Altarpiece of the Franciscans by Piermatteo. Another of his works, the St. Antony the Abbot, displaid at the Archaeological Museum of Amelia.
